About See Beyond
Disability education, school advocacy and neuro-affirming support
See Beyond is a Queensland disability education consultancy supporting children, families, schools and allied health professionals.
Founded by Sara Hocking, M.Ed., See Beyond provides support across school advocacy, disability-related educational planning, skill development for children with disabilities, professional development and neuro-affirming practice.
The work is grounded in education rather than a clinical or therapeutic model. The focus is on understanding the learner, identifying barriers to participation or progress, and developing practical, individualised ways forward.
About Sara Hocking
I’m Sara Hocking, the founder of See Beyond.
I am a disability educator, education consultant and Queensland registered teacher with over 20 years of experience across K–12 and tertiary education, and consultancy settings.
My professional background includes mainstream education, special education, behavioural support settings, educational leadership and work with neurodivergent learners who need a different approach to participation and learning.
My qualifications include:
Bachelor of Physical Education
Master of Education – Educational Leadership
Master of Education – Special Education
Queensland teacher registration
Over the course of my career, I have worked with students, families, educators and multidisciplinary teams across a wide range of educational settings.
That experience shapes the way I work now: practical, individualised and focused on what will actually improve a child’s access, participation and educational experience.
My approach
I do not begin with the assumption that a child needs to change in order to fit the environment.
I begin by asking what is happening for the learner, what barriers are getting in the way, and what changes would make participation and learning more achievable.
See Beyond takes a neuro-affirming and disability-informed approach. Behaviour is considered in context, and support is developed around the individual rather than around compliance with a predetermined idea of what learning or participation should look like.
I value structure when it serves a purpose. I am less interested in systems, programs or expectations that exist simply because “that is how it has always been done.”
The goal is not to make children easier to manage.
The goal is to understand what they need in order to engage, learn and participate more successfully.

Support is tailored to the individual situation rather than delivered through a one-size-fits-all model.
Why See Beyond exists
Too often, children are described in terms of what they are not doing.
Not attending.
Not complying.
Not completing work.
Not regulating.
Not meeting expectations.
Those descriptions tell us very little about why a child is struggling.
See Beyond exists to look beyond the surface presentation and understand what is actually happening.
Sometimes the issue is the task.
Sometimes it is the environment.
Sometimes it is sensory load, communication, executive functioning, anxiety, accumulated stress or a mismatch between the learner and the expectations being placed on them.
Sometimes the problem is systemic.
Understanding the difference matters.

See Beyond is based in Moreton Bay, Queensland.
Online advocacy and consultation are available across Australia, with selected in-person services available across Moreton Bay and surrounding areas.
